ある船乗りの船が難破し、小さな島に5年間も一人で過ごしていた。
ついに、ある船が彼の島の近くを通った。
彼は火を焚き、船に合図を送った。
男： 私はここにいる。助けに来てくれ。
船は止まって、男を助けるために、小さなボートを島にやった。
ボートには最近の新聞が山と積まれていた。
救助者は彼に新聞を見せて言った。
救助者： 見てわかるように、人々はハリケーン、地震、津波、
飢え、テロ、戦争、殺人などに悩まされている。
それでも助けてほしいですか？
Script
A sailor spent 5 years alone on a small island after his ship was wrecked.
At last, he saw a ship sail near his island.
He made a fire to signal the ship.
Man: I’m here. Please come and help me.
The ship stopped and sent a small boat to the island.
There was a pile of the latest newspapers on the boat.
The rescuer showed him those newspapers.
Rescue: As you see, people are suffering from hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunami, hunger,
terrorism, wars and murders.
Do you still want to be rescued?

津波は、英語でもtsunami. ラフカディオ・ハーンが、「稲むらの火」の原作として知られるA Living God（生き神）で、tsunamiという言葉を最初に使ったといわれる
Hurricane は大西洋や太平洋東側で発生するもので、太平洋西側で発生するものがtyphoon. 東南アジアで発生して、日本に上陸する場合が多い。
日本では台風は第○号と数字で示すだけだが、hurricaneと同じように台風も国際的には名前がつけられており、英字紙では名前で呼ばれることが多い。台風の呼称については以下のサイトを参照されたい。
